At the Łódź office, we met with Joanna Rajch, a local artist specializing in ceramics and inspired by Japanese culture. Joanna Rajch (www.amberious.com) creates ceramics using the kurinuki (hollowing) technique. Vessels are made by hand from a single piece of clay and formed into the approximate shape. Then clay is removed from the interior, and the middle is carved until a bowl or cup is formed.
In kurinuki, the elements are not joined in any way. Simple, natural form and colours are important, and randomness is key. Each utility item should be unique and specially selected for the person, which is why the cups differ from each other and don’t make a set in the European sense. Tea from such unique vessels really tastes different.
