Students at the Frigo Logistics construction site in Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki

08 May 2024

Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology visited the construction site of the Frigo Logistics distribution centre in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. The engineers learned the secrets of constructing a modern warehouse complex with freezer rooms.

First of all, a few words about the project and health and safety training before we visit the construction site. It is quite cold for April, but we do not feel it, being impressed by the spectacular structure of the high-bay freezer room made of high-bay racks. The approximately 36-m high freezer room will be fully automated, and for fire protection reasons, the oxygen concentration in the air inside the warehouse will be reduced.

Temperatures in the operating freezer room can be as low as -24oC, which implies a number of interesting technical solutions. At this stage of the construction, it can be seen that the structural elements of the high-bay warehouse, the picking building and the forwarding building do not come into direct contact with each other so as not to create thermal bridges, but the casing is a tight “box” that ensures continuity of thermal insulation. Under the floor of the future freezer room, there is a heating system that, once commissioned, will prevent the ground from freezing while the plant is operating.
